Goal Keeper Academy
The Jr. Irish Soccer Club understands the importance of speacility training including goalkeeper training and strives to provide supplemental training opportunities for all club members.
Goalkeeper coaches Duane Ungethum, Jordon Murphy, and Clive Neal share responsibilities for the Spring 2011 Goalkeeper training schedule:
30 Minute Warm-Up Sessions Nightly

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 5:45-6:15 Field 7

Opportunity for each keeper to develop a proper warm-up routine.

Works essential catching, trapping and throwing skills.

Allows for immediate feedback and reinforcement on a daily basis.

Incorporates one advanced diving, trapping or blocking activities per night.

Allows the coaching staff to continually evaluate each athlete.

Keepers are returned to their teams for training with minimal exclusion from their team.
60 Minute Technical Training Session

Wednesday 5:30-6:30 Field 7

15 minute warm-up session.

45 minute technical training.

Advanced skill development.

Proper diving techniques.

Focus on positioning.

Common distribution methods including kicking, throwing and punting.

Basics of wall formation on set plays.

Each keeper is encouraged to discuss mistakes or saves from games.

In-depth look at each keeper to reinforce strengths and discourage bad habits.
Long Term Goals of the Academy

Benchmark each athlete and track progress from season to season.

Identify long term goals of each athlete.

Develop athlete specific training plans.
-
Assist coaching staff, when necessary, to ensure that the proper keeper is placed on the appropriate team.

Educate parents on the requirements of the position.

Share common activities and methods with the Jr Irish Coaching staff so that they may get the most out of each keeper.
