Marc Colwell enters his first season as an assistant coach on the Bethel women’s soccer staff. Colwell brings an extensive coaching background in college and club soccer to the Pilots. He will assist in all aspects of the program including training the goalkeepers.
Before leaving full-time coaching to become an account executive in South Bend for a national healthcare company, Colwell was head coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at NCAA DIII Lakeland College in Sheboygan, WI from 2001 – 2005.
At Lakeland, Colwell guided the women’s team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, three conference tournament championships and three regular season conference championships in five seasons. The 2002 team led the nation in scoring, and a player on the 2004 team was tops in the nation in goals and points per game. The women’s five year record was 69-33-3 including 36-6-1 in conference play. He was named Lake Michigan Conference Coach of the Year twice.
Prior to coaching at Lakeland, Colwell was an assistant men’s and women’s coach and goalkeeper coach at Transylvania University in Lexington, KY and assistant men’s soccer coach and goalkeeper coach at Earlham College in Richmond, IN. Earlham advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and set the school record for wins in a season in 1999 with a 16-3-1 record.
In semi-pro men’s soccer, Colwell was assistant coach and goalkeeper coach in 2002 and head coach in 2003 for the Wisconsin Rebels in the Premier Development League, with competition including the Chicago Fire Reserves and the Indiana Invaders.
Colwell has also been on the coaching staff for Olympic Development teams in both Kentucky and Indiana and has coached Junior Irish Soccer Club teams and a premier U17 team that won the Kentucky State Cup.
Colwell is a native of South Bend and was an All-State soccer player at Clay High School and played for the Junior Irish Soccer Club. He is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington.
